Take A Seat: Nordic Design With A Klassik Touch

KLASSIK Furniture

Authenticated 20th Century Danish designed furniture with a mission toward heritage + sustainability. Walk in and take a seat inside one of Copenhagen’s unmarked museums.

Situated less than 300 meters from the iconic Nyhavn block, Klassik stands as a spot for any furniture lover to not merely witness but experience classic Danish furniture design. This retail shop sells and refurbishes 20th century Danish furniture. From chairs designed by Arne Jacobsen to tables by Hans Wegner, this store houses the most carefully coveted selection of second-hand Nordic designed furniture right in the center of Copenhagen with a factory just outside the city.

Starting in 1991, the first retail store opens a bit north in Østerbro on Strandboulevarden in a petite street corner where the company is quickly recognized as the first in town to sell iconic Danish design pieces second-hand. It is not until a merely 13 years later that Thomas Schlosser transitions as the new owner and CEO. Since Schlosser’s ownership, they have moved locations and according to Klassik’s website the concept of the company alters, expanding the store and selection tremendously. After nearly a decade, Schlosser decides to acquire Roxy Klassik, the company’s largest competitor. It is then the store transitions to four locations over Copenhagen, housing more than 4,000 square meters of retail and factory space. Today Klassik represents one of Northern Europe’s largest selection of second-hand Scandinavian furniture from chairs to lamps to couches all from the 20th century. Now the company states they carry over 20,000 vintage furniture pieces and ship worldwide, some new and some vintage.

While Klassik prides themselves and mainly sells vintage pieces, they also have some newly made pieces as well. However, even with second-hand pieces they differentiate them into three distinct categories. Original pieces are rather rare iconic 20th century pieces that are present day difficult to find due to the materials use and the process of inherent aging; therefore, Vintage, on the other hand, remains old however its condition is much newer, and it can be customizable and modified. Living is not second-hand, but according to Klassik, it complements their second-hand furniture and is designed by Klassik Studio. Whether you just wander in to touch the beautiful furniture or decide to purchase an authentic used piece, sit down, revel in the comfort and beauty and experience the unique pieces of Danish furniture design throughout the 20th century with sustainability at its core.
